Unbearable spookiness of being

As long as Mr. Gibson won't read anyone's email, I can at least post my message here. Don't know why, but I feel that's important to say.

It's just a simple word "Thank you" with variations in B-moll.
Tank you for latest two books. I don't know how, but reading them makes everything a little less unbearable. Somehow I look with different eyes on all that agressive anthill called Moscow. I can see little things that are so useless and necessary.

just - "Thank you, Mr. Gibson"

Awesome, this could be the thread for Gibson's mail. lol

Mr. Gibson, I'm very glad you stopped writing science fiction and turned to present-day stories. I came here after reading "The Difference Engine", "Pattern Recognition" and "Count Zero". Good stuff, better than acid.
I suppose el Gib might say that he didn't stop writing science fiction so much as he stopped *trying* to write science fiction, since just writing about the world around him feels so much to him like writing science fiction did 20 years ago.

Another way of saying it is that the future has recently become so much more boring than the present and even the recent past, which feel more futuristic than the present, partly because the future no longer feels to happen before or ahead of us but rather all around us, especially behind us.

It's taking more and more time to discover the recent advents of the future, for it is happening in so many separate and specific ways, not in a towering apex of ongoing achievement but in ten million tiny ziggurats around the globe.

By the time we recognize anew development or direction of the future, it;s typically receding behind us in the rear view mirror.

Science fiction isn't really about the future, it's always about right now. That's why we have the spectacle of Star Trek and 007 "reboots" that deal with urban terrorism. That's why the last Captain America looks like a Snowden fever dream. That's why Star Wars 7 will focus on the melting of the glaciers of Hoth and the "war on women" by remnants of the Old Empire.
