rip steve jobs

56 is too young. The guy had major chops as a seer of paths to a future where simple easy tech made large impacts. Too bad he didn't get to live on and maybe go through a gatesean philanthropic stage. that would have been awesome.

I used to be a confirmed Apple-hater, but have recently come around to enjoying the stuff immensely. And while I still have problems with the attitude that came with it sometimes, I do appreciate the mind that helped generate those innovations. 56 is too young, and that's a shame.

Almost got suckered into arguing on another thread. Guess I'll let the man at least cool off until weighing his virtues and sins and getting all witty with it.

Jobs changed consumer society, and helped the development of elegant, useful, usable tools. Tools that, in a very subjective, personal note, helped me and others I know to express themselves, thrive and create.

RIP Steve Jobs.

Well said. He was always the greatest cool-hunter of them all. Nobody had this unidentifiable ability of understand when a technology was ready, technologically as well as socially.

His pursuit of style and perfection will be missed greatly within the entire industry. Love him or hate him, but without Jobs computers would still be grey.

I'm not saying he invented the tactical turtleneck but I appreciated the style that he brought out in consumer electronics. While I have problems with the way in which Apple tends to deify their products I appreciated his philosophy of 'less is more' and his brutal approach to reducing the number of products his company offered. They always seemed to focus on quality and usefulness. I know little about him as a person but I think we are all agreed, especially those of use within what seems like a short distance of his age, that 56 is too young.
