october london gibson hacking 2010

Bic, I for one would never describe myself as super-confident. I've been fighting anxiety and depression for a long time and there are many days when even leaving the house to go outside is a struggle.

But every time I've met up with folk from the WGB, I've had a blast. They're a creative, upbeat bunch of people who are fun to be around and I know damn well the experience did me good.

Come along, it'll be great.

best,
Chris H
i'm with chris on that front. i do my best not to let anxiety get the better of me, but i'm going through one of my phases right now where i'm very conscious of my limitations. mostly now with folk from here i just throw myself into it, but i know the first time i met someone from the board i was nervous as hell and felt sick right up till they turned up.
i've emailed foyles, it has to be said, thats the least satisfying ticket process ever...
if this week has been a guideline, then its a bad example of how things will go in october!
i'll definitely make the saturday, and will try and swing it so i get the whole week, but at moment i can't confirm.
EDIT TO ADD BRISTOL

4th OCT IQ2 Event - Cadogan Hall - Tickets £25 = I

5th OCT - Foyles Event - Free = F

6th OCT - Festival of Ideas - Bristol = B

9th OCT Forbidden Planet - Free - store signing = P

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest any obligation on the behalf of others. I just figured that if we could take him (and his SO is she is present) somewhere cool then it would be worth considering.

I'm a cheap wine and Pizza Express person myself. But I'm more than happy to throw in for something special since this may be the only chance I get to associate with an author who has helped shape my worldview.
WG likes Wagamama. Fine and expensive is difficult with 20+ people.

I think planning a Wagamama evening on Saturday evening might be a good plan. If the Krad's can talk them into saving us some space it would be fantastic.

I have no idea if WG will be able to meet up with us Saturday evening. He might possibly be flying out of town that evening. Who knows?

an excursion to bristol would be quite tempting. of course i can't imagine october will be as sunny as it was in june... but still.

I hope we'll hang on to the good weather. By the time it gets to December, things can get a bit gloomy:

Watershed, Bristol

The Watershed is just on the right.

best,
Chris H
I'm more than happy to arrange a Wagamamas night on the saturday Smile Closest one to Forbidden Planet?

We should also be child free on the friday night (I'm shipping the small person off to my Mums for a weekend!) so would be nice to do something then too, I think most people in in London for then too. Any particular requests??

I think Wanderer and I will be there Friday. I, personally, would like to go dancing or drinking or both.
We will be there from thursday afternoon/night. As long as check-in and stuff doesn't take too long we can spend the thursday evening with any available wigbers too. As for friday, i follow Titanium Wren's philosophy Wink

By the way, we leave on monday afternoon.

Oh and a hotel has not yet been found. Leads/suggestions on cheap places welcome (just email davida.dc on gmail).

what is this language you speak? I not understand....

You should all prolly go to a nice museum instead. They have some lovely scrapped airplanes at the Tate.
Ooh, that looks cool. I think I'll go see that.

How about a drink, at least, at the Home House Club ("Cabinet") in Portman Square ?

We sayed at The Georgian House Hotel in April. Nicely situated just a few mins walking distance from Paddington Station, small, clean and welcoming with a passable breakfast. Had a good deal on laterooms.com. Comfortable walking distance along Millbank to Westminster, Trafalga Sq, Covent Garden etc
