october london gibson hacking 2010

ok. i guess we need a london meat thread. so we can start coordinating attendance.
hopefully given the announced event in october is on a saturday, so that should maximise the possibilities for people turning up.

would be good if there were more events like last time, a reading in particular would be good. so i guess we need to keep our eyes peeled for that possibility and how that extends the trip.

worst case scenario for me (most of us i guess) is travel after work friday, gather saturday, and disperse. but hopefully i'll at least try and get a few days off. my monthly reporting at work is due that week, so it might be tricky, but we'll see.

who is coming?
for how long?
what else?

Its highly highly unlikely we'll have moved.. but if we have, there will be available lodgings.. not very central, but on the tube atleast!

I'm kind of presuming there will be more between the monday and saturday?? Unless he pops off to Paris or something in between.

Maybe we can arrange a private reading Wink

(and before anyone else thinks I was very clever finding that event.. Mr G tweeted it this morning!)

Same here. Monday 4th and Saturday 9th is thinkable bad. Would have to travel London and back twice in one week.

The weekend appears like the better option to me.

Last book, the only reason I got to see him read is because I managed to win tickets to the CBC taping, that was the only Vancouver event. Frown

But I do love that you even looked into it!
Aww, you guys are really sweet for remembering me! Thanks Fashpo. I'm really touched!

October 8-11? Hmm... I could do the 9th. Awesome, I shall put that in my calendar.

This will be a bit of a journey for me: in just over two weeks I'm leaving the UK to live in Holland to be a senior lecturer in games design at NHTV University.

I'm really looking forward to seeing you all again, and you have once again confirmed that Gibsonians utterly rock.
keeping up to date/new page
-if people hear through other route (eg like psychophant posting on twitter) let us know. i emailed aisha, i know she was kicking herself she missed it last time, but had no response so far, think she has been scarce on twitter recently too. and remembered i have gringo's email as well, so sent him a quick one.

-looks like most people are favouring the 9th at the moment. which is mostly likely what will suit me best. but its the third quarter reports which should be due earlier, which might clear me for 4th as well.
i know chris has bought a ticket for the event, has anyone else? i guess its easier for the londoners to attend. i'd like to go, but can't say just now, while the signing is easier to commit to.

what do people want to do?
how long are people going to be there?

i guess at least we can think about arranging dinner on the saturday evening.
perhaps somewhere to meet pre-signing.
if there are enough folk staying on for the sunday, then what to do then?

last time we did science museum, the lighthouse/container place, camden, and the like.
anywhere people are wanting to do this time?
more karaoke to invoke the madness of last time?

anyone else thinking about coming?
*had to google Wormwood Scrubs* At first, I saw it was a name of a prison and I was like, "Whoa, I'm open to having fun, but that's kinda nuts."

So, what is it people do there?

Also, I would like fish and chips at some point.

Also, is the Gibson willing to hang out with us again?
hey, my son was born over looking Wormwood Scrubs - and oh yes, it was the prison part of it!!

WG was asking lots of questions about it on twitter while writing the book..

Meru - its just a peice of open ground.. part is a nature reserve for bird watching.

Mmm.. fish and chips..

We won't know until perhaps a week before we're there at the earliest. He really doesn't know his final intinerary until the last minute. Besides the public appearances there's a lot of behind the scenes interviews with the press, etc. that he needs to attend to.

So I think we all need to assume that it won't be possible to see him apart from the "official" events and rejoice if any additional opportunities arise.
